Legend Maldini Given Special Achievement Award From UEFA

The ex-Rossoneri captain has received an award for his exploits on the continental stage during his career

Former Milan defender Paolo Maldini has been given a special Champions League Achievement Award by UEFA.

The legendary Italian received the accolade at the Champions League draw in Monaco, presented to him by UEFA president Michel Platini

for his contributions to the tournament over the years.

The 41-year-old made 140 appearances in the competition, playing in eight finals and winning the high-profile trophy five times during his career, that he spent entirely with the Rossoneri.

His most recent title was against Liverpool at the final in Athens in 2007, a 2-1 victory courtesy of a brace from striker Filippo Inzaghi.

Maldini made his first senior appearance for Milan at the age of 16 in 1984 and was a prominent part of the team until his retirement at the end of last season. His is typically considered as one of the best defenders of all-time.
